About Würzburg

Würzburg - the capital of Lower Franconia in Bavaria and bishopric of the catholic diocese Würzburg - is located at both sides of the river Main and overtopped by the Marienberg Fortress. It also is the center of the Franconian wine region in Germany as well as the starting point of the famous Romantic Road.

In the year 704, Würzburg was first mentioned in an official document. In 2004, the city celebrated its 1300th anniversary.

The colours of Würzburg are red and yellow; the coat of arms shows a red-yellow flag with a silver spearstick on black background. The flag appeared first in the 16th century and used to be the flag of the old duchy Franconia that had other colours.
The landmarks of Würzburg are the Old Main Bridge as well as the crane "Alter Kranen".

In 1981, Würzburg's Residenz was appointed UNESCO world heritage as the third building in Europe.
