Würzburg Areas

Würzburg in Lower Franconia lies at both sides of the river Main. On the left bank of the Main, there is the Marienberg Fortress, an impressing old fortress that has been dominating Würzburg since its construction in 1201.

When you leave the main station and walk southwards through Kaiserstrasse, you will reach the historic city center within a short while. Here, many of the important sights of the German city Würzburg are located. The western border of the "Altstadt" is formed by the river Main. When you cross the famous old bridge "Alte Mainbrücke", you are already close to the Marienberg Fortress. From there, you have a brilliant view of Würzburg.

For admisitrative reasons, Würzburg has been separated in 13 city districts and about 25 parts of the town. Many of these districts used to be independent cities and were incorporated to become a part of Würzburg.
